It is characterized by symptoms of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/medical-dictionary\/dizziness\/\">dizziness<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/symptoms\/nausea-and-vomiting-emesis\/\">nausea<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/symptoms\/fatigue-in-cancer-treatment\/\">fatigue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The most common symptoms experienced in motion sickness are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/symptoms\/nausea-and-vomiting-emesis\/\">Nausea<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Vomiting<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/medical-dictionary\/dizziness\/\">Dizziness<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Vertigo<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/symptoms\/abdominal-pain\/\">Abdominal discomfort<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/symptoms\/headache-2\/\">Headache<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myvmc.com\/symptoms\/fatigue-in-cancer-treatment\/\">Fatigue<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Pale face\u00a0and cold sweats<\/li>\n<li>Hypersalivation<\/li>\n<li>Hyperventilation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Symptoms gradually improve within 15 minutes of the motion stopping, when stomach motility has returned to normal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do\u2019s and Don\u2019t\u2019s when you are travelling to avoid motion sickness:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>DO&#8217;S<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>minimise motion \u2013 sit in the front of a car or in the middle of a boat<\/li>\n<li>look straight ahead at a fixed point, such as the horizon<\/li>\n<li>breathe fresh air if possible \u2013 for example, by opening a car window<\/li>\n<li>close your eyes and breathe slowly while focusing on your breathing<\/li>\n<li>distract children by talking, listening to music or singing songs<\/li>\n<li>break up long journeys to get some fresh air, drink water or take a walk<\/li>\n<li>try ginger, which you can take as a tablet, biscuit or tea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>DONT&#8217;S<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>do not read, watch films or use electronic devices<\/li>\n<li>do not look at moving objects, such as passing cars or rolling waves<\/li>\n<li>do not eat heavy meals, spicy foods or drink alcohol shortly before or during travel<\/li>\n<li>do not go on fairground rides if they make you feel unwell<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>TIPS TO AVOID MOTION SICKNESS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><u> Behavioural Therapy:<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>-reducing head movement<\/p>\n<p>-gazing at the horizon<\/p>\n<p>-lying down and controlled, regular breathing<\/p>\n<p>-If there are no windows or it is dark, then closing the eyes or trying to sleep may help. Closing the eyes -prevents the conflict that occurs between what is visually perceived and what is sensed by the inner ear<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong><u> Natural Remedies<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Some people feel like they get relief with these:<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Raw\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/vitamins-and-supplements\/ginger-uses-and-risks\">ginger<\/a><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0There\u2019s some scientific proof that this root, long used as a folk remedy to fight\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/digestive-disorders\/digestive-diseases-nausea-vomiting\">nausea<\/a>, is effective. But it may act as a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/heart-disease\/ss\/slideshow-tips-for-taking-blood-thinners\">blood thinner<\/a>. Talk to your doctor first before you use it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-Mint.<\/strong>\u00a0Eating peppermint is thought to calm the body. At the very least, the aroma may soothe you.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong><u> Pharmacological Therapy:<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you\u2019re still bothered by motion sickness, you can talk to your doctor about these:<\/p>\n<p>To prevent motion sickness symptoms, oral medications should be taken at least 30-60 minutes before travel to allow adequate absorption time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antihistamines<\/strong> are the most commonly used medication for preventing and treating motion sickness, and work\u00a0by reducing the stimulation to the inner ear.
