INTRODUCTION

Department of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care is one of the services offered in Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom (HEBHK). The anaesthetic services rapidly developed throughout the years with more services offered to meet the increasing demands.

Department of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care provide services includes peri- operative management for patients undergoing surgery, intensive care, pain management for post- operative and non - operative patients. The department is located at level four together with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute Pain Service unit (APS) and Peri-anaesthesia Service in Operating Suite.

The Department of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care has been one of the pillars in ensuring the excellence of Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in providing the best care for patients.

DEPARTMENT’S OBJECTIVE

  • To provide peri- operative anaesthetic care, patient management and intensive care efficiently in a safe and professional manner. The services shall be patient centered, holistic and in accordance with the current best practices.
  • To uphold the value of teamwork by working closely with other clinical services to
    achieve the best possible outcome in patient care.
  • To provide continuous education, professional development and formal training for medical and allied health professionals.
  • To support clinical research projects and continuous quality improvement activities to improve the level of services provided.

CLIENT CHARTER

  • Patients will receive perioperative anaesthesia service by a dedicated and trained team. They will be seen preoperatively for consultation, given safe anaesthesia and appropriate intra- operative and postoperative pain management.
  • Patients shall receive acute and chronic pain treatment according to standardised
    guidelines. Patients who require further treatment or intervention which is not provided in
    Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom shall be referred to the appropriate health institution.
  • Post surgical patients under Acute Pain Service (APS) will have pain score of ≤ 4 at rest within the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Critically ill patients who fulfil the admission criteria shall receive intensive care
    management in the intensive care unit. Referral to another centre shall be made in the situation in which further intervention is required.
  • Patients and family members shall be given clear and adequate information regarding their illness, the management, procedures and expected risk.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

  • Peri- operative anaesthetic care for patients undergoing surgery, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Care for the critically ill patients, requiring intensive monitoring and intervention or advanced life support.
  • Pain management services for obstetrics, acute and chronic pain patients.
